In 2001 Anthony von Mandl, proprietor
of Mission
Hill Winery in Kelowna, B.C. Canada comissioned A.J.
Rogac to create a special keystone for the winery's new home. The
stone
was to be placed in the set of contemporary,
curved
arches visitors pass under to enter
the main winery grounds.
Hand chiselled from a five tonne block of Indiana limestone by
A.J. Rogac Ltd., the keystone
features images taken from the von Mandl family crest.
As the Mission Hill website puts it "For proprietor von Mandl, the
keystone embodies the coming together of tradition, quality, heritage
and
innovation."
The keystone was installed into the arches at Mission Hill in August
2002 and officially unveiled during a gala celebration in September
of that same year. |
